Resolution adopted in the concluding session of National Convention Against Assault on Journalists September 22-23, 2018 Constitution Club of India, New Delhi This convention that pooled in journalists from all over the country has amply made it clear that journalists who are writing against anti-people policies of the State are in grave danger today. Such journalists have been murdered, assaulted and oppressed in myriad ways by the State machinery. The situation remains same irrespective of which political party is in power. The unholy nexus of politicians, mafia and police has made it much difficult for journalists working in small towns, suburban areas and remote villages to perform their job. For Endorsement: Journalist Sandhya Ravishnkar's letter to Chennai CP on threats and intimidation

Chennai journalist and member of this group Sandhya Ravishankar has been facing numerous threats and intimidation for her stories against illegal sand mining . Over the last few weeks, the threats and intimidatory tactics have intensified. She has filed complaints with the Chennai Police Commissioner but no action has been taken as yet. The letter is addressed to the Chennai CP seeking immediate action on her complaints. Pls endorse it.

Media is often referred to as the fourth estate or the fourth pillar of democracy after executive, legislature and judiciary. It not only holds the government into account but also provides easy access to information to the citizens of a country. These names are not final and are subject to changes till the last hour. CAAJ is contacting journalists from all over the country who have faced suppression of any form in the last few years and need to speak out.

Formal announcement of National Convention Against Assault on Journalists

The formal announcement for the National Convention Against Assault on Journalists was made on Friday, September 7th, 2018 by a Facebook invite and releasing the invite cover photo and page cover of the convention. All are invited to the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi on September 22-23, 2018 who believe in press freedom and uphold the right to report freely without fear of intimidation and persecution.
